Near the end of his life, in chapters 23 and 24, Abraham trusts God’s promises in two of life’s big moments—death and marriage.

The second of these is marriage. Finding a good wife for Isaac isn’t easy. Abraham could pick a woman who’s nearby, but he believes God’s promise that Isaac’s family will be different from the nearby people. He could send Isaac away from the Promised Land, but he believes God will give him the land. So he sends his servant on a tough mission—because he trusts God.

We too must believe God’s promises in life’s big moments. We may be tempted to leave God’s people in order to win wives or husbands or friends. But we must trust that Jesus is our best friend, eagerly waiting to make us his bride.
